Description

Master the art of making Chinese Onion Pepper Steak with our easy-to-follow recipe. Perfect blend of beef, spices, and vegetables for a hearty meal.

Ingredients

Scale
  • 1.5 pounds of beef strips
  • 1 green bell pepper, sliced thick
  • 1/2 onion, minced thickly
  • 1/4 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 1/2 cups of beef broth
  • 1/4 teaspoon ground ginger
  • 3 tablespoons of soy sauce
  • 1/4 teaspoon of black pepper
  • 2 teaspoons of brown sugar
  • 1 tablespoon of cornstarch

Instructions

  1. Place the beef, peppers, and onions in an electric pressure cooker.
  2. Add garlic powder, ground ginger, black pepper, brown sugar, and soy sauce to the beef and peppers.
  3. Pour beef broth into the Instant Pot, stirring to combine.
  4. Secure the lid and set the pressure to high for approximately 15 minutes.
  5. Perform a quick release, or opt for a natural release if you prefer the steak to be more tender.
  6. Remove the lid, press the Cancel button, and set the pressure cooker to sauté mode.
  7. In a separate bowl, mix 1/4 cup of cold water with the cornstarch. Stir this mixture into the Instant Pot.
  8. Bring it to a boil for 3 to 5 minutes, or until the sauce thickens.

Notes

The key to this dish lies in its preparation. Begin by thinly slicing the beef, bell pepper, and onion, ensuring they cook evenly. Seasoning the beef with garlic powder, ginger, and soy sauce infuses it with rich flavors. Adding brown sugar balances the savory notes with a hint of sweetness. The cooking process is simplified with the use of an Instant Pot, which combines pressure cooking and sautéing to perfection. The cornstarch slurry is the final touch, thickening the sauce to coat the ingredients beautifully.
